The joys of having your very own dedicated server
The joys of having your very own dedicated server. There aren’t any. Unless you count the faster access speeds, better data transfer in other words, less downtime etc.
No-one mentions the downsides. Like the greatly increased monthly costs, or the hourly fees for a “remote-hands” techies to re-boot it, or just thump it for you. Lets not forget the constant upgrading of server software, almost daily in fact just to stay ahead of the scammers, hackers, and dickheads.
Then there’s the stuffups, like when you forget you are logged in as “root” and you upgrade a users site for them, then they come back screaming because they cannot overwite the html file that is now owned by user “root”. No matter, a quick “chown -R” should fix that.
So you try to offset your costs with a few Google Adsense adverts, and the money really starts to roll in, and you find that in no time at all you are earning nearly $10 bucks a month! Yep, that certainly goes a long way towards paying for that server not.
